The fighting techniques are trained as part of MCMAP, a weapons-based system beginning at assault fire and moving to the four elements of the fighting component (rifle and bayonet, edged weapons, weapons of opportunity, and unarmed combat).

If you are going to attempt to make your opponent look foolish in a debate, it’s always good to know what you are talking about. In the debate last night, President Obama tried to embarrass Romney by pointing out that our military does not use horses and bayonets. Except that our military does still use bayonets. I went to Marine Corps boot camp in 1995 and we trained with bayonets, and Marines still train with them today.
This is not the first military related gaffe of Obama’s. In a speech in 2010, the president mispronounced Navy Corpsman as “corpse” man. He did this more than once. This was worse than Bush’s continued use of “nucular,” which made me cringe every time he said it.
Additionally, Obama does not seem to realize that US troops, or our allies, do not typically use AK-47 machine guns. After the shooting in Colorado he said,
But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals — that they belong on the battlefields of war and not on the streets of our cities.
I find this one particularly insulting because the AK-47 is a often a symbol of anti-Americanism. It’s a Russian weapon that is used all over the third world by terrorists and warlords because it is cheap and low maintenance. The fact that Obama does not know this tells me that he has not bothered to learn very much about the military that he commands.
Data gathered from 4,000 boys across the US revealed that, on average, white and Hispanic boys go through puberty around the age of ten, while the average age is nine for black boys.
the American Academy of Pediatrics… studied 17,000 girls and found that the average age of breast-budding among white girls was 9.9 years while for black girls it was 8.8
There have been several articles written recently over how boys and girls have been showing signs of puberty earlier than before. Particularly interesting is that there is variation between the races. Of course we are told that race is merely a social construct and has no biological significance whatsoever. So according to the race is a social construct model, we as a society must be imposing expectations on black children to reach puberty sooner, imposing expectations on white, Hispanic and Asian children to reach it later or some mixture of both.
It seems evident to me that a rational person divorced from political correctness would see this difference for what it is. A biological difference between groups of humans that evolved in different geographies. To date I have not heard an alternate explanation put forth by the race equals a social construct side.
Note: I am not arguing for anything like superiority of the races or special treatment or any such nonsense. I am only concerned with the subject as it relates to the diversity of humanity. I am also concerned that political correctness ignores the genuine science of race differences and could lead to chaos and hostility in society.

Only in modern masochistic Europe would such an idea be seen as a positive. The idea that replacing the indigenous people and culture of a nation is a positive is not found anywhere outside the West. Normally the decline of a civilization is met with more skepticism and dread.
BBC News – Creativity ‘closely entwined with mental illness’
Creativity is often part of a mental illness, with writers particularly susceptible, according to a study of more than a million people.
Writers had a higher risk of anxiety and bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, unipolar depression, and substance abuse, the Swedish researchers at the Karolinska Institute found.

Hopefully this won’t prompt the lowering of standards for Marine Corps officers.
The second of two female Marines who tried to make it through the grueling Infantry Officer Course has failed due to medical reasons. The female volunteers are part of a study by the Marines to see if women can become ground combat leaders.
The Marines have not released the names of either woman, citing privacy concerns.
One of the women washed out earlier this month during the first day of the Infantry Officer Course at Quantico, Virignia, which lasts eighty six days and is considered the toughest training course in the Corps.
About 25 percent of the men failed on that first day as well.
The second woman Marine failed late last week, after she was unable to complete two required training events due to unspecified medical reasons. The Marine Corps said the woman, a 24-year-old second lieutenant from the South West, is being treated and is in good condition.
When she started the course the woman said this to the Marine Corps leadership: “I see it as an incredible opportunity that has never been open to women. I want to try and open up a door, maybe, for women after me. I don’t know how far it will open, but I’m hoping to make a difference for women down the road.”
So far, no other female Marines have signed up for the next course.

It’s already been pointed out that GM is losing almost $50,000 per car on the Chevy Volt (see here also) . Now the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has put out a rather damning report on electric cars in general. I’m not against the idea of electric cars in general, but I am opposed to government subsidies. I also do not believe that the technology is there yet and there is nothing wrong with the combustion engine that has made modern many times more convenient and productive.
From the CBO report,
Because of differences in vehicle design and technology, electric vehicles cost thousands of dollars more to purchase than conventional vehicles of comparable size and performance.
Given current prices for vehicles and fuel, in most cases the existing tax credits do not fully offset the higher lifetime costs of an electric vehicle compared with those of an equivalent conventional vehicle or traditional hybrid.
